April Bostic

BIO:

It was pretty easy for my mother to think of a name for me when I was born in April 1978. I was raised in New Jersey and I still live there today, but I have dreams of moving to the west coast. I'm not married, I don't have any pets or children, but I have one younger sister who is also my best friend. I began writing short stories in elementary school but as I matured, I found an interest in computers. When I graduated high school, I decided to learn more, and I eventually earned an Associates degree in Computer Information Systems from DeVry University. I currently work as a security administrator in the Information Technology field, but I don't consider myself a techie. My sister is definitely the 'Tech Support' in the family. One of my hobbies is collecting Barbie dolls and I currently have over 200 in my collection. I also enjoy reading books. My favorite literary genre to read is paranormal erotica romance. My favorite books are the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire series by Charlaine Harris. I'm also a big fan of the television adaptation True Blood. Other authors I enjoy are Lora Leigh, J.R. Ward, Kresley Cole, and Sherrilyn Kenyon. I also enjoyed J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series and Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series even though I don't usually read Young Adult books. The only other YA book I've read was Silver Kiss by Annette Curtis Klause and I did enjoy that as well.

A Rose to the Fallen was inspired by the actor Toby Hemingway after I saw The Covenant in September 2006. The book began as a Toby fan-fiction written by me in July 2007. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've never taken a professional writing course in my life. I taught myself to write and I learned techniques by reading other authors' books. I hosted the story on LiveJournal until I created my own Toby Hemingway Fan-fiction website in January 2008. I posted the epilogue in May 2008 and I had over 20,000 visitors from around the world in less than a year. Some of my readers expressed that my fan-fiction was better suited as a book. I agreed with them because one of my goals in life was to publish at least one book. Over the next few months, the story was edited and self-published through Author House. I closed my website in November 2008 when I announced that my fan-fiction was being transformed into a book. A Rose to the Fallen was released in December 2008 and I opened my official author website. I've been asked why I chose to self-publish instead of submitting my manuscript to an agent or publishing house.

The answer is simple: I'm used to taking the initiative when I want something done, and I pride myself on being self-sufficient. So I thought: 'Why wait for someone else when I could publish the book myself?' Self-publishing fit my goal and my personality because it's guaranteed publishing and I keep all the rights to my book. My writing résumé isn't very extensive. I lightly dabble in poetry, having written a total of four poems; two of which are posted on Fiction Press. I've written a couple of unpublished erotica short stories, and a Lord of the Rings fan-fiction entitled Of Elves and Men which is hosted on FanFiction.net. I'm currently writing an Alex Pettyfer fan-fiction entitled The Howling Heart which is an adult paranormal romance I'm hosting on Fiction Press and my LiveJournal. A Rose to the Fallen will be the only novel I publish because I accomplished my goal of publishing at least one book in my life and I'm satisfied.

Do soul mates really exist? Is there really another person out there who was born just for you? And are they the only one who can answer your heart’s call? Bridget Monahan is an elementary school teacher, and she’s about to find out that perhaps soul mates do exist. Her heart is on the mend from many failed relationships, she’s a skeptic when it comes to find love, and the last thing she wants is to be set up on another blind date. However, she is introduced to the charming Tristan Hathaway. Bridget’s first impression of Tristan is that he reminds her of an angel with a British accent that makes her knees weak. When they begin their passionate romance, Tristan is able to break her defenses that were guarding her heart for so long, and as Bridget allows herself to fall deeper in love with him, she starts to believe that they are soul mates. But she also learns that although his beauty is near perfection, he is not without flaws, and there’s more to him than she ever imagined. Not to mention he can seduce her unlike any man she’s ever known and take her mind, body, and soul to a place of sheer ecstasy. Bridget unexpectedly becomes the student in this magical love affair and her biggest lesson may be that true love and eternity are bound.

(This is written by Keta Diablo herself) The Sin Eater’s Prince is a short story in Cecilia Tan’s Vampire Anthology! Squeek! I am thrilled to be a part of this. Hopefully, I’ll find the time to develop this short story into a full-length. Of course that depends on what my wonderful readers think of it. If you don’t know what a Sin Eater is, I’ll tell you. They really existed in days of old, mostly in Scotland, Wales and England. Shunned by local villagers and also feared by them, these solitary men were called upon only when death was imminent. The Sin Eater would arrive and stand over the dying person (or in some cases a dead corpse), eat a piece of bread and swallow it along with the person's sins. Thus, the person could enter heaven without sins and not wander the Earth as a spirit for all eternity. Sound interesting? I loved the research on this one.

Linda Lael Miller

Linda Lael Miller
Linda Lael Miller
BIO:

Each morning shortly after the sun rises over Spokane, Washington, New York Times bestselling author Linda Lael Miller pulls on her cowboy boots and heads for the stables for a few quiet moments with her horses before she settles in to write her pages for the day. As the daughter of a town marshal, Linda has come home to the western lifestyle that gave birth to one of today’s most successful authors. With more than 80 novels to her credit, the self-confessed barn goddess left Washington years ago and pursued her wanderlust, living in Arizona and London and traveling the world. But now the “First Lady of the West” is glad to be back home, writing contemporary and historical novels that have earned her awards and placements on all the national bestsellers lists.

Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she made her first sale in 1983. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Linda's latest New York Times bestseller is Montana Creeds: Dylan, a March 2009 novel about Dylan, the second of three hell-raising Creed brothers. The former rodeo cowboys hang up their championship belt buckles and come home to Stillwater Springs, Montana, to restore the family's neglected ranch and dignity to the Creed name, to mend fences and have kids that bear their name. The first brother, Logan, launched the series in February with his story, and Tyler winds up the trilogy in April. Of course, the estranged brothers need help in their endeavors and find honorable equals in women struggling to build loves for themselves and their families.

Once a struggling young mother, Linda is devoted to helping women who long to improve their lot in life through education. Each year she sponsors a round of competition for her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women. The stipends, which she funds from her writing and speaking earnings, go to women 25 years and older who have a difficult time qualifying for traditional scholarships. Linda’s grants may be used for childcare, transportation, or any other expense that stands between a woman’s dreams and fulfillment. Linda is excited about her association with The Humane Society of the United States, for whom she has become an advocate for the group’s Pets for Life program. Once someone finds a furry friend to bring into their home, Linda and The HSUS want to help them learn how to keep the critter for life. Linda has come a long way since leaving Washington to experience the world. "But growing up in that time and place, in a family grounded in Western values, served me well," she allows. "And I'm happy to be back home."

Joanne Rendell

Joanne Rendell
Joanne Rendell
BIO:

Joanne Rendell is the author of The Professors’ Wives’ Club and Crossing Washington Square. She lives in New York City with her husband, a professor at NYU, and her son. Joanne grew up in England—on Plymbridge Road, in a town called Plympton, which is near the city of Plymouth. Even as a child, she enjoyed all the Plyms in her address. Plymouth is a good five hour drive from London and a much longer journey from New York City, yet when Joanne was young she had a crush on the Big Apple (she now blames her mum’s love of American cop shows like Cagney and Lacey). When she was ten years old, in fact, she wrote a series of stories about a couple of kids who find a magic footpath in New York’s Central Park. After leaving school, Joanne went to the University of Leeds in Yorkshire where she completed a degree in English Literature and Philosophy—and spent countless Friday nights dancing to classic 90’s hits like Pulp’s Common People and (yes, I admit it) Take That’s Relight My Fire.

The student life was too much fun for Joanne, so she went on to do a Masters at King’s College London and then a PhD in English Literature at the University of Sheffield. She still did a lot of dancing as a grad student, but she also enjoyed jetting to far-flung places to attend academic conferences. On one such adventure to a conference being held in Saskatoon, Canada (it took 3 flights and over twenty hours traveling to get there), she met a professor from the U.S. named Brad Lewis. Over wilting hors d’oeuvres at a pre-conference mixer, they discovered they liked the same books, loved the same philosopher, Michel Foucault, and even more importantly they both had all the albums of the great Billy Bragg. Joanne and Brad started to write papers together, organize conference panels, email furiously, and eventually they fell hopelessly in love. After Joanne was done with her PhD, she upped sticks and moved to New York to be with Brad, who teaches at NYU. Not long after they got married, and not too much longer after that, their son Benny arrived on the scene.

Over the past six years, Joanne has juggled life as a stay-at-home mum with writing novels. She hasn’t left academia completely behind. She and Brad are faculty in residence in one of NYU dorms and they run events, book groups, and programs for the students who live in their building. Also, Joanne’s novels are all set at Manhattan U—a university in downtown New York which looks, she does admit, a little like NYU. When she’s not writing or exploring the dinosaur halls at the American Museum of Natural History, she loves to eat burritos, listen to books on her ipod, and think about Cadbury’s Chocolate Buttons which aren’t readily available in the U.S. Joanne hasn’t found a magic footpath in Central Park yet, but she continues to search.

Some women follow their hearts; others follow their minds. In this “charming, witty, and cerebral” second novel from the acclaimed author of The Professors’ Wives’ Club, we return to Manhattan University, where two strong-willed women are compelled to unite their senses and sensibilities. Professor Diana Monroe is a highly respected scholar of Sylvia Plath. Serious and aloof, she steadfastly keeps her mind on track. Professor Rachel Grey is young and impulsive, with a penchant for teaching popular women’s fiction like Bridget Jones’ Diary and The Devil Wears Prada, and for wearing her heart on her sleeve. The two conflicting personalities meet head to heart when Carson McEvoy, a handsome and brilliant professor visiting from Harvard, sets his eyes on both women and creates even more tension between them. Now Diana and Rachel are slated to accompany an undergraduate trip to London, where an almost life-threatening experience with a student celebrity will force them to change their minds and heal their hearts…together.

BIO:

I am a true romantic at heart with an interest in the paranormal and a love of mystery and adventure. I have been married to the same very patient man for 34 years and I have one son and three wonderful grandchildren. My black toy poodle, Dixie, thinks she is actually a fourth grandchild and expects to be treated accordingly. We live in South Carolina, USA, and we slip away to go RVing at Myrtle Beach whenever possible. Long walks on the beach help me unwind and often ignite my imagination. I began reading and writing at an early age and thought I had died and gone to Heaven when I started school and found the library. Since then it has been my pleasure to entertain and inform others with the written word. A former technical writer and bookkeeper, I began writing articles and then romances in 1998. I am of the old school and believe that true romance tales should lead readers to the bedroom door and then leave a little something to the imagination. I sincerely hope that you enjoy reading my stories as much as I have enjoyed creating them for you.
